Greiple and Cavendish Go One-Two in Giro
Ciolek Wins in Bayern Rundfahrt

Team High Road has claimed two big victories today winning both Stage 17 of the Giro d’Italia and the first stage of Bayern Rundfahrt with both races displaying excellent teamwork from all the riders.

“It’s really impressive,” says Team Director Rolf Aldag. “In both races the guys really worked well together to take these wins. They really showed that that there is a good spirit within the team.

At the Giro, the team went into full swing for the sprint lead out and had the whole team at the front for the final. Wiggins took the second last pull which split the bunch and Greipel took over to lead out Cavendish. But Cavendish could see that none of the other sprinters could come around so he let Greipel take the victory and settled for second place.

“Mark has been very excited about the work Andre did for him in stage 13 and wanted to pay him back for that,” explained Aldag. “In the end they got first and second. You can’t do better than that.”

High Road still has its full team of nine riders at the Giro, all of whom plan to make it through to Milan. “I talked to the sprinters yesterday and explained that they could go home after today if they chose,” said Aldag, “but they all agreed that they want to stay and fight until the end. They are all really there for each other.”

In Bayern Rundfahrt, another of High Road’s young sprinters won the first stage in style.

“It’s the hardest stage of the race,” said Aldag. “It has two climbs of 8km towards the end and a really hard final with a 500m uphill sprint. “The team controlled the race all day and brought back the breakaway for Ciolek to sprint. He felt really good all day and started his sprint with 300m to go. Nobody could come around him.”
