Kelly Benefit Strategies/Medifast Goes Bi-Coastal: Double Podium Same Day

(May 22, 2008)

Report filed by Kelly Benefit Strategies/Medifast Pro Cycling

Minneapolis, Min., – Jonas Carney's second year Kelly Benefit Strategies/Medifast team continued their return to form with the momentum of a runaway train this past weekend, snatching podiums and jerseys at the Mt. Hood Cycling Classic in Portland, Oregon and the Bank of America Wilmington Grand Prix, Delaware.

"The kind of results we saw this past weekend show how quickly we've matured as a program," says performance manager Ken Mills. "We're always happy to take the podium but to put our guys up there in two races on opposite coasts over the same weekend is impressive for any program let alone a young, growing team. Both David Veilluex in Wilmington and Bajadali at Mt. Hood showed the kind of legs and performance we know are going to mark the rest of our squad's season."

Bajadali secured his KOM jersey at Mt. Hood this weekend after driving the in stage two, where he scored points on every KOM line other than the final ascent to the finish. He finished in 8th place overall after six days of racing, helped along the way most notably by Dan Bowman who helped to drive another long breakaway in stage four, the. The Kelly Benefit Strategies/Medifast team closed the race with three athletes in the top 20: Bajadali (8), Justin Spinelli (14) and Reid Mumford (16).

In Wilmington, Delaware, at the Bank of America Wilmington Grand Prix, Canadian David Veilleux almost won his first NRC race at the age of 20. Jonny Sundt and Veilluex rode out a 40 mile 12 man break and came close to setting up Veilluex for the win in front of title sponsor John Kelly and representatives from Kelly Benefit Strategies, one of the nation's largest group insurance brokers and consultants.

"This was a great week for our team," adds Jonas Carney, performance ! director . "David really stepped up and demonstrated what he can do in front of our sponsors in Wilmington while Baj rode a super aggressive race in Oregon. Despite starting only six at both races, we managed to generate great results at both events. That's good to see and an indicator of even better things to come."

Next up for the Kelly Benefit Strategies/Medifast team is the Kelly Cup May 24 in Baltimore, Maryland ahead of Philly Week, the Nature Valley Grand Prix in the Twin Cities and a packed second half race calendar.
